It wouldn’t be summertime in the Berkshires without the ever-popular Tanglewood Music Festival (www.Tanglewood.org). Delight in live concerts by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a wide range of other top-tier musicians performing classical, popular, and jazz music from June through Labor Day in Lenox, Massachusetts. Another yearly summertime event is Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival (www.jacobspillow.org). This renowned Becket, MA dance festival, which features hundreds of performances and free events, was called the "Hub and Mecca of dancing in North America" by Time magazine. Reminiscent of shrines found in Italy, the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy (www.thedevinemercy.org) boasts intricate floral carvings and polished marble, all enveloped by stunning views of the Berkshire Mountains. The Roman Catholic shrine, which attracts more than 50,000 pilgrims each year, holds a daily mass and two on Sundays.
Each December, Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas (http://www.stockbridgechamber.org/christmas.html) is a main event. Made famous by Norman Rockwell’s painting of the village during the holidays, the town of Stockbridge, MA becomes a living, breathing holiday celebration that features holiday house tours, caroling, and a concert. The Berkshire International Film Festival (http://biffma.com/) in Great Barrington, Massachusetts showcases the latest and greatest independent features, short films, documentaries, and family films. In addition, there are compelling panel discussions and special events highlighting filmmakers both behind and in front of the camera. Dodds Farm, which is located in Hillsdale, New York just across the border from Great Barrington, MA, is the home of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (http://www.falconridgefolk.com/), a four-day community gathering of folk musicians and dancers.
