Located on 119 gorgeous acres in the Berkshires on the Massachusetts/New York State border, the Catamount Ski Area (www.catamountski.com) prides itself on providing the most diverse ski trail network in the Berkshires. One of the oldest original operating ski areas in the Northeast, Catamount boasts wide, open trails and 32 runs. All levels of skiers will be drawn to both the big mountain skiing and snowboarding. Private lessons are offered, plus there’s a supervised children’s playroom for little ones (2 to 6 years of age). Ski Butternut (www.skibutternut.com) is another Berkshire Mountains family-friendly ski area. Beginners, experts, and everyone in between will be impressed with the 22 trails on 110 acres that are designed for downhill and cross country skiing. In addition, there’s a five-lane tubing center and on-site daycare.
Cross country skiers are invited to experience Canterbury Farms (http://www.hidden-hills.com/canterburyfarm/) in the Berkshire Hills. There are 12 miles of trails designed specifically for cross country skiing that are groomed and tracked every day. A northern exposure brings lots and lots of excellent snow to this stunning area that features brooks and stone walls. What’s more, trails have been widened to allow for skating.
