Treat yourself to a haunted guided ghost tour at the former estate of Edith Wharton, The Mount. Drawing on her own experience with and her interest in the supernatural, the renowned ghost writer wrote several haunting stories during her long writing career. For over a century, The Mount has since been home to famed writers, actors, affluent families, servants, and a boarding school for girls.

In the early 1940’s, The Mount became a residence for the Foxhollow Boarding School for Girls. After remaining vacant for several years, the Shakespeare acting company moved in to use it as a dormitory and performance space. Both of these residents reported unexplained eerie noises and sounds and sightings of figures in period dress throughout the house. In early 2009, the TV show Ghost Hunters filmed an episode at The Mount, and over the course of three days reported audio and visual evidence of paranormal activity, such as the sounds of footsteps in empty rooms, and disembodied voices.

The Mount offers ‘ghost tours’ on Monday and Friday nights that includes tours of the estate, the stable and the mansion.
