Visitors of all ages will be treated to an array of exhibitions, activities, and attractions at the Berkshire Museum. Discover everything from fine art and fossils to an aquarium featuring native and exotic creatures and the Little Cinema where you can enjoy documentaries and classics. Part of the amazing permanent collection is the whole-body fur suit and other equipment from the first successful trip to the North Pole by Robert E. Peary and Matthew Henson along with the writing desk of Nathanial Hawthorne. In addition, the works of major artists from both the United States and around the world are on display at the Berkshire Museum. These range from Rembrandt Peale, John Singleton Copley, and Thomas Sully to Pierre Auguste Renoir, John Singer Sargent, and Paul Cézanne.

The innovative museum also boasts many firsts. In the 1930s, it was the first to commission two mobiles from Alexander Calder and, in the 1950s, it was the first to display the work of Norman Rockwell as well as pieces by such uncommon artists as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Ellsworth Kelly, Nancy Graves, and Red Grooms. During the 21st-century, the acquisitions have centered on artists with connections to the Berkshires, including Gregory Crewdson, Peter Garfield, Morgan Bulkeley, Stephen Hannock, and Helen Febbo. Over the years, institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Guggenheim Museum have borrowed various objects. Berkshire Museum hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
